18-20 April 2018 | University of Edinburgh

Hosted by: the SIG in Social work research on integration policies with migrants and refugees (together with the SIG in social work, TV and media)

What images, stereotypes, prejudices  appear in the minds of social workers when dealing with migrants and/or asylum seekers? Which images appear in the minds of migrants  who are social services users when dealing with social workers?

The purpose of this Pre Conference session is to identify discourses, images and stereotypes which are present in the mind of social workers, social services users and citizens and how they can affect their daily work . We will try to connect it with the  integration processes and challenge an integration framework as it is  actually defined by proving that it is mainly based on prejudices

For the development of this seminar we were  inspired by the reflections of Hofstede, Cohen Emerique, Bauman, Malouf  and Kundani

The session will be practical and dynamic with many helpful examples and ideas

Date and time: 18 April 2018, 12.45-15.30; George Square Campus, room to be confirmed
