April is a spring month in Edinburgh: days are long (sunrise and sunset are typically at 06.00 and 20.30 respectively), flowers are in bloom and leaves are appearing on the trees. Weather-wise it is a bit unpredictable – there can be warm, sunny days as well as heavy showers and even snow. We advise checking the forecast when packing, bearing in mind that Edinburgh is windy and therefore waterproof jackets are more reliable than umbrellas. As a major city, and capital, Edinburgh appears on many weather websites but you can also use this link to look directly on the BBC Weather site: http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2650225

Seasonal allergies: in April there can be some tree pollen causing problems for hay fever sufferers, although each year is different. Anyone requiring medication for hay fever should bring a supply. Alternatively, the most common anti histamines are available over the counter as well.
